Newtown Sandy HooK Elementary School Shooting

Connecticut State Police said they were responding to reports of a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Friday morning.

The school superintendent’s office says the district has locked down schools to ensure the safety of students and staff. The shooting was reported at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, in western Connecticut.

The Newtown Bee is reporting multiple police, ambulance and emergency crews are at the scene, and there are multiple reports of injuries being reported.

State police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance says they have a number of personnel on the scene to assist.

Police are reporting a number of injured parties. The nature of their injuries is not clear.

There are unconfirmed reports of two shooters — one dead, one still at large.

Shortly after 9:40 a.m., police reported that a shooter was in the main office of the school.

Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers.
